Maodian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
South and eastern Jiangxi (Ganzhou Basin). The name of Maodian Formation was given by the Geological Survey Team of Jiangxi in 1994. The type locality is at the Chenkeng section of Maodian in the Ganxian County of Jiangxi (115º00'18″, 25º55'12″).
Synonym: Maokoudian Fm (?)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is mostly composed of brownish red conglomerate and sandy conglomerate, with intercalations of siltstone, mudstone, yielding basalt and tuff locally. The thickness ranges from 640 m to 1839 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation traditionally shown as unconformable contacts onto the Lengshuiwu Fm or Gaotan Fm; however Li et al. (2019) indicate that it is not overlying the Lengshuiwu Fm.
Upper contact
The formation conformably contacts with the overlying Zhoutian Fm.
Regional extent
It occurs in Huichang and Longnan areas.

The formation yields charophytes Flabellochara hangzhouensis, Peckisphaera cf. verticillata, Atopochara trivolvis, Sphaerochara raricostata, Songliaochara sp. , and dinosaur egg Elongatoolithus sp.
